Who we are
Over its 80-year history, the American Society of Mexico (AmSoc) has represented the interests of American companies, civic organizations and the larger American community residing across the country, striving always to promote synergies that drive economic development and shared prosperity.
The founding of the American Society of Mexico dates to a special meeting held at The American School Foundation in Mexico City on August 26, 1942, where a group of Americans and U.S. Ambassador George S. Messersmith, who was named Honorary President, adopted the mission and bylaws that operate to this day.
AmSoc’s mission is to serve as a coordinating organization supporting the efforts and activities of a broad range of nonprofit organizations, private business interests and individuals with operations in Mexico. Its approach includes hosting forums to promote dialogue, discussion and analysis to support policy initiatives and decision-making that benefit both Mexico and the United States.
We give a voice to the American community in Mexico and are keenly focused on building the trust needed to drive progress on both sides of the shared border. Our mission is to establish cultural, educational, philanthropic, and business ties between the United States and Mexico. Today the American Society of Mexico is not reserved only for Americans and Mexicans. We are open to anyone who wishes to take part in and contribute to our dynamic community, whose fundamental values are justice, equality, democracy and freedom. In the words of President John F. Kennedy to the American Society of Mexico: “You are part of us, and we are part of you.”
